Harmony reports loss-of-life incident at Moab Khotsong mine
JSE-listed Harmony Gold Mining Company has reported that an employee lost his life in a locomotive-related accident at the Moab Khotsong mine on April 25.
Moab Khotsong is a deep-level mine near the towns of Orkney and Klerksdorp, about 180 km south-west of Johannesburg.
All relevant authorities, family and stakeholders have been informed.
An investigation into the incident is currently under way, led by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.
“We are profoundly saddened by this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of our colleague during this incredibly difficult time,” Harmony CEO Beyers Nel says.
This is another loss-of-life reported by the company. In February, Mining Weekly reported that two employees lost their lives following a fall-of-ground (FoG) incident at the company’s Mponeng mine in Gauteng; while five mineworkers lost their lives in two separate incidents at the Doornkop and Joel mines.
